Makeup Sample Subscriptions: A New System of Makeup Discovery
Not too long ago, about a few months back, I got introduced to makeup subscriptions. I did my research and with the help of my community at Beautylish and some intensive googling, I decided to pay $10 a month to get samples from a makeup subscription company called Ipsy.
Ipsy, was conjured by the great mind of online beauty Guru, Michelle Phan. The premise is quite simple : become a member and for a flat rate of $10 a month you get random samples of makeup, skincare, hair products and nail varnishes and tools. You can cancel at any time for no charge. Ipsy calls their samples “glam bags.” Glam Bags are literally makeup bags (reusable and collectible) and feature 5 samples. On their Facebook page, they usually hint you at what you might be getting the next month, and it is always fun to build anticipation.
Why do Ipsy? For me it was about discovering new beauty lines and testing out new things. For the beginner, it is about trying out products and seeing if they work. We all subscribe for different reasons. I like having something to look forward to and there is an excitement in not really knowing what you are getting.
Of course, there are many makeup subscription services like Ipsy, including another big one, Birchbox.
So are you subscribed to any? What do you love and what do you hate? What do you do with the products you do not like (I give them away).
